           Our Mandate ...

"Conservation Authorities, created in 1946 by an Act of the Provincial Legislature,
are mandated to ensure the conservation, restoration, and responsible management
of Ontario’s water, land, and natural habitats through programs that balance human
and environmental needs."

HIKING THROUGH THE SPRINGWATER FOREST IS OPEN YEAR-ROUND!

The CCCA asks for a nominal $2.00 per hiker
to use the trail system. A taxable receipt will be
issued for all donations in excess of $20.00.

For the enjoyment of all users, we ask that
everyone observe and adhere to the Rules and
Regulations that are found posted at each trail
entrance.

Some of the best nature walks in Ontario can be found in the Conservation Areas
of the Catfish Creek Conservation Authority. Offering 8 km of hiking trails, the
Springwater Forest is a national rarity, a 150 hectare Carolinian Forest containing
more endangered species than any other zone in Canada. The forest contains a
diverse variety of interdependent animals and plants.

               SPRINGWATER CONSERVATION AREA CAMPGROUND
The Springwater Conservation Area campground is closed for the season and will
reopen on May 1st for reservations. The Springwater Schoolhouse remains
available for rentals until December 31st.

The Catfish Creek Conservation Authority has a colourful
Trail Guide to help people navigate the many kilometres of trails
through its major conservation areas.  The Guide was designed to
encou
rage more people to walk in the woods for health’s sake, and
was
sponsored by the Ontario Ministry of Health Promotions and
supported by the St. Thomas-Elgin Health Unit.

The twelve-page document features photographs of many of the woodland
creatures the hikers will meet, and contains maps of all the major trails for the
Springwater and Archie Coulter Conservation Areas and the Yarmouth Natural
Heritage Area, just east of the Vill
age of Sparta.
