Authority Programs

Environmental Planning and Regulations

The Conservation Authority provides input to municipalities and planning boards on documents and applications under The Planning Act. By reviewing these documents, the Authority is given the opportunity to ensure new development does not take place in flood and erosion prone areas indiscriminantly.

Fill, Construction and Alteration to Waterways Regulation, Ontario Regulation 144/90

Permits from the Conservation Authority are required for:

- the construction of any building or structure in or on a pond or swamp or any area susceptible to flooding during a regional storm, anywhere in the watershed,
- the placement or dumping of fill in a fill regulated area as defined on specific maps,
- the straightening, changing, diverting or interfering with an existing watercourse, anywhere in the watershed

Legal Inquiries

Legal Inquiries are another important aspect of flood plain management. The Authority responds to inquiries from lawyers, realtors, and the general public who are interested in knowing whether or not a property is located within a flood or erosion prone area.

The Fee for this service is $75.00 per Inquiry.
