The Water Safety, Watershed Conditions Statement issued on March 1, 2021 at 9:45 a.m. has been withdrawn and is downgraded to a Normal, Watershed Condition Statement.
This is a Normal, Watershed Conditions Statement indicating that water flows have returned to seasonal flows, and other factors influencing flood risk have dissipated.
The long term forecast is for a warming trend to return this week with daytime temperatures in the positive single digits with no forecast precipitation at this time.
Effective immediately, the Catfish Creek Conservation Authority is issuing a Normal, Watershed Conditions Statement for watercourses within the Catfish Creek watershed and its tributaries. At present stream flow and water levels have returned to seasonal flows within the Catfish Creek watershed. The snowpack has for the most part diminished but is still present in shaded areas and along north facing slopes. This remaining snowpack will continue to supplement additional water runoff into the Catfish Creek and its tributaries. As a result, this runoff may the potential to marginally elevate water levels within the Catfish Creek watershed. A limited possibility exists for above average water flows during the remaining snow melt, adding to unsafe channel bank conditions and other unpredictable dangers around waterways within the Catfish Creek watershed. Anglers, boaters, children, pets and people intending to undertake any recreational activities around watercourses need to be vigilant of their surroundings during this time.
The public is encouraged to always exercise caution around all creeks and waterways, and to stay away from hazardous areas during the spring runoff. Landowners are encouraged to always check dams, culverts, and catch basins and make sure they are free from debris and functioning as intended.
CCCA will continue to monitor watershed conditions and will issue updates and recommendations as necessary. CCCA always recommends taking all and any necessary precautions around the Catfish Creek and its tributaries.
This Normal, Watershed Conditions Statement has no expiry date and will remain in effect until conditions change and will be adjusted accordingly if warranted.
