SPRINGWATER CONSERVATION AREA
NEW VISITOR CENTRE
Aylmer, ON October 15, 2020 – The Catfish Creek Conservation Authority (CCCA), similar to many other businesses has had a very challenging year. Coupled with ongoing cuts to provincial grants, the CCCA has had to rely more and more on the revenue produced through the Springwater Conservation Area.
The CCCA has been successfully operating the Springwater Conservation Area for over 55 years, which has seen visitors from all over Ontario, Canada, and internationally. The CCCA runs the Campground at Springwater with the hope of creating an appreciation of nature within our visitors, providing local recreational opportunities, as well as to financially offset costs for our provincially-mandated responsibilities.
The property at Springwater was established in 1962, with the first campsites being created in 1965. The first Gatehouse was built in 1977 to replace a slim guard shack. The current Main Gatehouse/Store was built in 1986 and has now reached the end of its life. With close to 11,000 annual visitors the Springwater Conservation Area needs to move forward with a more user-friendly Entrance and new and improved Visitor Centre. This building will greatly benefit the efficiency and operations of the Springwater Conservation Area and Campground, as well as generate tourism and economic development in our partnering municipalities and the County of Elgin as a whole.
To ensure that the building project will be sustainable, the CCCA is asking for donations for the construction of the new Visitor Centre to be ready for the 2021 camping season. A Donor Guide detailing various recognition levels has been published and is available on our website (https://www.catfishcreek.ca/our-supporters/fundraising/) or can be picked up at the CCCA Administration Centre during weekday office hours.
“The Springwater Conservation Area has always provided a venue for visitors to find solace in nature, and that has been even more apparent this year. To create a more stream-lined entrance for the campground and a more welcoming Visitor Centre has been a dream for years.”
