LAKE ERIE SHORELINE, WATERSHED CONDITIONS STATEMENT
Effective immediately, the Catfish Creek Conservation Authority (CCCA) is issuing a Watershed Condition Statement for the shoreline of Lake Erie within CCCA’s administrative boundary.
A Gale warning for Lake Erie has been issued by Government of Canada, Marine Forecast and Warnings on December 4, 2024 at 03:00 AM. The possibility exists for damaging winds through today tonight and Thursday.
Winds: Today Tonight and Thursday.
Wind southwest 56km increasing to southwest 65km this morning then diminishing to west 46km this evening. Wind increasing to west 65 near midnight then veering to northwest 65km Thursday morning. Wind diminishing to northwest 56km near noon Thursday.
Waves: Today Tonight and Thursday.
Waves 2 metres building to 2 to 3 metres near noon then subsiding to 2 meters Thursday afternoon.
Power outages are possible. Damage to buildings, such as roof shingles and windows, may occur. High winds may toss loose objects or cause tree branches to break.
There is a possibility of a wave uprush along the Lake Erie water frontage from Waneeta Beach, to the harbour area and has the potential to cause shoreline erosion.
Residents are asked to closely watch local conditions and take appropriate responsible action, and are urged to use caution and stay away from Lake Erie shoreline areas experiencing strong wave action and elevated water levels.
Municipal flood coordinators are asked to monitor road conditions along the lakeshore.
This Watershed Condition Statement is in effect until 08:00 a.m., Friday December 6, 2024 at which time it will expire.
This is a reminder to be diligent, and watch local weather conditions and to take appropriate action when circumstances require.
CCCA continues to monitor watershed conditions and will issue updates and recommendations when or if necessary. CCCA always recommends taking any necessary precautions.
