LAKE ERIE SHORELINE, WATERSHED CONDITIONS STATEMENT.
Effective immediately, the Catfish Creek Conservation Authority (CCCA) is issuing a Watershed Condition Statement for the shoreline of Lake Erie within CCCA’s administrative boundary.
A Gale warning for Lake Erie has been issued by Government of Canada, Marine Forecast and Warnings on November 20, 2024 at 10:30 AM. The possibility exists for damaging winds through Today Tonight and Thursday.
Gale warning in effect. Wind southeast 19km increasing to west 65km this afternoon then diminishing to west 56km this evening. Wind backing to southwest 46 near midnight then veering to west 37 Thursday afternoon. Showers this afternoon and this evening. Scattered showers Thursday.
Waves
Waves 0.5 metres or less building to 1 meter this afternoon and to 2 to 3 meters early this evening. Waves subsiding to 2 meters near midnight and to 1.5 meters Thursday morning and to 1 meter Thursday evening.
Power outages are possible. Damage to buildings, such as roof shingles and windows, may occur. High winds may toss loose objects or cause tree branches to break.
Lake Erie water elevation observed at Port Stanley Station is 174.16m IGLD.
There is a possibility of a wave uprush along the Lake Erie water frontage from Waneeta Beach, to the harbour area and has the potential to cause shoreline erosion.
Residents are asked to closely watch local conditions and take appropriate responsible action, and are urged to use caution and stay away from Lake Erie shoreline areas experiencing strong wave action and elevated water levels.
Municipal flood coordinators are asked to monitor road conditions along the lakeshore.
This Watershed Condition Statement is in effect until 12:00 a.m., Friday November 22, 2024 at which time it will expire.
This is a reminder to be diligent, and watch local weather conditions and to take appropriate action when circumstances require.
CCCA continues to monitor watershed conditions and will issue updates and recommendations when or if necessary. CCCA always recommends taking any necessary precautions.
