LAKE ERIE SHORELINE, WATERSHED CONDITIONS STATEMENT.
Effective immediately, the Catfish Creek Conservation Authority (CCCA) is issuing a Watershed Condition Statement for the shoreline of Lake Erie within CCCA’s administrative boundary.
‘Strong’ winds of 37 to 61km/hr are occurring or expected to occur along the Lake Erie shoreline within the administrative area of the Catfish Creek Conservation Authority.
Conditions are favorable for the development of squalls with wind gusts up to 93km/hr., with frequent lightning and hail. Strong thunderstorms are expected to track across the central and southern Great Lakes this afternoon.
Power outages are possible. Damage to buildings, such as roof shingles and windows, may occur. High winds may toss loose objects or cause tree branches to break.
There is a possibility of a wave uprush along the Lake Erie water frontage from Waneeta Beach, to the harbour area and has the potential to cause shoreline erosion.
Residents are asked to closely watch local conditions and take appropriate responsible action, and are urged to use caution and stay away from Lake Erie shoreline areas experiencing strong wave action and elevated water levels.
Municipal flood coordinators are asked to monitor road conditions along the lakeshore.
This Watershed Condition Statement is in effect until 8:00 a.m., Friday June 7, 2024 at which time it will expire.
This is a reminder to be diligent, and watch local weather conditions and to take appropriate action when circumstances require.
CCCA continues to monitor watershed conditions and will issue updates and recommendations when or if necessary. CCCA always recommends taking any necessary precautions.
