Trails & Day Use Information – May 11, 2020

Trails & Day Use Information – May 11, 2020

May 11, 2020

UPDATE: May 29th, 2020

the Catfish Creek Conservation Authority would like to remind visitors trails are open for walk-through access (hiking, biking, birdwatching, and walking are all acceptable activities). Please remember to put a donation of $3 into the yellow trail boxes that are located at the entrance of every trail.

Furthermore, visitors are now allowed to bring their own boat for canoeing and kayaking. Fishing is also now permitted. To participate in these activities, visitors must have a pass, please visit the Springwater Gatehouse that is located at 8059 Springwater Road, to purchase a $10 day pass. The Beach remains CLOSED. Gatherings of more than 5 people are still NOT permitted.

Springwater CA is currently not renting canoes or kayaks, nor do we have worms at this time. Paddleboarding and motorized boats are not permitted in Springwater Pond.

ORIGINAL POST:

The province announced that it will open Provincial Parks and Conservation “Reserves” on May 11th. Conservation “Reserves” refer to provincial properties, not Conservation “Areas” which are owned by Conservation Authorities. Conservation “Reserves” are regulated under the Provincial Parks and Conservation Reserves Act. Conservation “Areas” are governed by the Conservation Authorities Act.

We have not yet had word on when Conservation Areas will be allowed to open, but we will post a notice on our social media platforms as soon as a date has been confirmed.

All buildings and facilities including washrooms, water taps, playgrounds, and beaches continue to be closed and access to campsites is not permitted. Anyone found in violation of this will be evicted immediately.

The trails remain open for walk-through access ONLY, this means this is currently NO fishing, canoeing or kayaking, etc. at our Conservation Areas or other CCCA-owned properties.

Visitors must practice social/physical distancing (2 meters) while on the trails. If you need to, you can step off the trail but please take care when doing so. Please avoid busy parking areas and congregating in groups larger than 5 (as the Government has banned this).

If you have any questions, please email Emily Febrey, Community Outreach Technician at [email protected]
